2026-2027 Terms and Conditions for Non Stipendiary Fellows
Health and Personal Belonging Insurance
Fellows are requested to arrange health insurance coverage which includes Covid-19 coverage for themselves and their families for the duration of their Fellowship.
Fellows are also requested to arrange insurance for their personal belongings.
Residency
Fellows are expected to be present at the IIAS five days a week, from Sunday till Thursday (“working days”).
Fellows who are members of a Research Group (RG) must participate fully in the activities of the Research Group for the entire duration of their period of residence. This participation includes, but is not limited to, spending their working day at the IIAS in order to participate in RG meetings and seminars.
Each Fellow is entitled to leaves of absence of up to two working days for every month of his/her period of residence. These days include absences for personal and medical reasons as well as absences to fulfil professional obligations not related to the RG (including participation in conferences). All expenses for these personal, medical and external professional obligations are the financial responsibility of the Fellows and will not be reimbursed by IIAS.
The Fellow must report any absence from the IIAS as soon as possible. Special leaves of absence must be approved by the IIAS in advance, and will be granted on an individual basis. Unapproved absences will result in deductions from the Fellow’s monthly Stipend.
Fellows are not allowed to work in Israel or abroad in any position outside their IIAS Fellowship.
Participation in IIAS Activities
During the period of residency, Fellows must participate in formal, social and cultural events organized by the IIAS. Fellows who are members of a Research Group (RG) must participate in RG activities. Individual Fellows may request RG organizers to join their RG seminar meeting.
Daily Lunch
Participation in the daily light lunch at the IIAS is an essential element of communal life at the IIAS. Dairy and vegetarian food is served Sunday through Thursday, between 12:30-13:30, at a subsidized monthly rate.
Research Activity
The Fellow will report to the IIAS Director about his/her research activity, presenting a final report at the end of the residency.
The academic results of the research conducted at the IIAS remain the full property of the Fellow. Fellows are expected to acknowledge the support of the IIAS in any publication that matured from their time at the IIAS.
Any scholarly books or publications that are a result of the RG activities or RG fellows’ collaborations must acknowledge the IIAS and contain the following sentence: “The research for this book/article/other was conducted at the Israel Institute for Advanced Studies, as part of the Research Group [insert name of RG]/during [give residency year in brackets]"
When presenting a talk at another institute while in residence at the IIAS, the Fellow is asked to mention their current status as an IIAS Resident Fellow. PowerPoint presentations should prominently feature the IIAS logo.
Resources
Fellows will receive a HUJI visitor’s card, which serves as a means of identification on HUJI campuses, provides access to the various libraries on HUJI campuses, and is required for membership in HUJI’s Faculty Club, the Cosell Sports Center (which offers a membership for IAS Fellows at a reduced rate) and other HUJI facilities.
Fellows will receive an office, equipped with a desktop computer, printer connection, wire telephone, bookshelf and basic office supplies.
