The school aims to understand biological complexity while taking into account molecular constraints as well as the larger framework of evolutionary processes. Recent technological innovations have improved significantly our ability to get quantitative data on biological systems. New theoretical approaches are needed to reach a broader understanding. From the point of view of physics, the challenge is to integrate all levels into a theoretical framework from which global properties emerge.
