Achim Lichtenberger, a past member of the "Contextualizing the Cult of the Southern Levant in the Greco-Roman Period: Monotheism and Polytheism between Continuity and Change" research group at IIAS, is co-curating an exciting new exhibition at the University of Münster.
Titled “Body. Cult. Religion. Perspectives from Antiquity to the Present”, the exhibition will run from October 25, 2024, to February 26, 2025, and will explore the central role of the human body in religious practices and beliefs across diverse cultures and time periods. Lichtenberger, an archaeologist, has partnered with Egyptologist Angelika Lohwasser and theologian Holger Strutwolf to organize the exhibition at the university’s Archaeological Museum and Bible Museum.
According to Lichtenberger, “The body has always been a screen for projecting religious ideas. Whether through ritual practices, clothing, or tattoos, these modifications of the body are a means to signal religious belonging or to enhance spiritual experiences.”
