Ofer Aharony is a Professor in the Department of Particle Physics and Astrophysics at the Weizmann Institute of Science. His undergraduate and graduate degrees are from Tel Aviv University. Following postdoctoral research at Rutgers University, Ofer joined the faculty at Weizmann Institute. Ofer investigates quantum field theory and string theory. String theory states that all known particles of matter arise from a single basic component, dubbed a “string,” and that all the forces of nature are different aspects of one primordial force. Ofer’s research is aimed at achieving an improved understanding of string theory and its relation to quantum field theory. In particular, he studies how to apply string theory to learning about the strong nuclear forces that hold together the particles in the nuclei of atoms.
