Ariel Hirschfeld is Professor and Head of the Hebrew Literature Department at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His research interests are Modern Hebrew Poetry, S. J. Agnon's oeuvre, H. N. Bialik's oeuvre, and the concept of place in Hebrew literature, music and poetry. Ariel focuses in particular on locality in modern Hebrew culture, and the tragic mode in "Ir U'Mloaa" (The City and the Fullness Thereof) by S. J. Agnon.
