Galit Yovel is a professor in the Department of Psychology at Tel Aviv University. She received her PhD in Psychology (Cognitive Neuroscience) from the University of Chicago in 2001. She then completed a post-doctoral training in fMRI of high level vision in the department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT, and joined Tel Aviv University in 2005. 

Yovel's research aims to understand how the perceptual, cognitive and social systems work together in order to perform the computationally challenging task of person recognition. Her lab performs behavioural and neuroimaging experiments, as well as computational models (deep neural networks) of face recognition, to unravel the mechanisms that enable humans to reach such high level of performance in this complex computational task.

Yovel has received multiple awards, including the Rector's Award for Excellence in Teaching five times from Tel Aviv University, and has published over 80 papers.
