ART FELLOW

Hanita Ilan, born in New York 1978, lives in Jerusalem and works in The Artist’s Studio, Jerusalem.

Her primary field of work is painting, where she stretches and challenges the boundaries of the medium. Through abstraction, deconstruction, subtraction, and erasure, she confronts the material with the image and surface within its frame, creating works where the abstract and the figurative, the sculptural and the painterly remain in constant tension. Coming from a religious background, her works explore questions related to religious beliefs, myths, and historical and cultural archetypes.

Her works have been exhibited in solo shows at the Wilfrid Israel Museum in Kibbutz HaZorea, the Ramat Hasharon Municipal Art Gallery, and the Dana Gallery in Kibbutz Yad Mordechai. She has participated in various dual and group exhibitions in Israel and abroad, including at the Negev Museum of Art, the Artists' Workshops in Tel Aviv, Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem, and the JCC Manhattan in New York. Ilan holds both a Bachelor's and Master's degree with honors from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design and has received several awards, including the 2022 Creation Encouragement Award, the Independent Creators Grant (2022 and 2019), the Tel Aviv Project Fund grant in collaboration with the Rabinovich Foundation in 2017, and the Artist-Teacher Award from the Ministry of Culture and Sport (2012-2015).
