Israel is a professor in the Departments of History of the Jewish People and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His research interests are: Israelite history within the Assyrian, Babylonian and Persian Empires; Ancient Near Eastern military history; and West Semitic epigraphy.
