Jesse Lockard works on 20th-century art, architecture, and the historiography of material culture, with special interests in visual rhetoric and image transmission. She is currently writing on the architect Yona Friedman, examining the ethics and internationalist politics of housing and mobility in the postwar era and Friedman’s distinctive visual modes of architectural theorizing. Further projects include studies of the conceptual and material underpinnings of style history. This work examines the development of formalist analytic methods, design didactics, and the role of photography and architectural theory in the formation of art history as a discipline.
