Karen Avraham is a professor in the Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University. The primary research interest of her team is the genetic basis of hereditary hearing loss or deafness. Her group is working towards the identification, characterization and regulation of genes associated with hereditary hearing loss, and their work has provided the link between gene discovery and clinical diagnosis in genetic clinics in medical centers throughout Israel.
Prof. Avraham has received numerous distinctions and awards, including the Sir Bernard Katz Prize (2002), the Hestrin Young Investigator Award for Excellence (2000), and the Burt Evans Young Investigator Award (1999).
