Nir Friedman is a professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering and the Institute of Life Science at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He received his PhD from Stanford University in 1997, and undertook postdoctoral research at UC Berkeley before joining The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1998.

Prof. Friedman's research interests are:
Molecular Biology of Chromatin and Transcriptional Regulation: Understanding how cells regulate transcription, interaction between chromatin and transcription, and gene expression.
Computational Systems Biology: Applying probabilistic models to understand biological systems and to analyze high-throughput data collected from biological sources.
Inference and learning in probabilistic models: Representation, inference, and learning with probabilistic graphical models (Bayesian networks and Markov networks).

Prof. Friedman has received numerous awards including the Juludan Prize for Advancing Technology in Medicine (2007), the Sir Zelman Cowen Universities Fund Prize for Discovery in Medical Research (2007), and the Yoram Ben-Porat Presidential Prize for Outstanding Young Researcher (2002).
