Uri is a professor in the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies at Tel Aviv University. His research interests are: early Islam, with special emphasis on the Qur'an, Qur'an exegesis (tafsir) and early Islamic tradition (hadith); the study of the status of Jerusalem in early Islam; the prophetic image of Muhammad in the Qur'an; and aspects of the evolution of Muhammad's prophetic image through the ages.
