FELLOW
Queens College
Warren Woodfin is Kallinikeion Assistant Professor of Byzantine Studies at Queens College, where he holds joint appointments in the Departments of History and Art History. His research focuses on the art and archaeology of Byzantium and its cultural sphere in the eleventh through fifteenth centuries. His particular interests include the role of textiles and dress as bearers of meaning and the triangulation between human participants and artistic representations in liturgy and ceremonial. More broadly, his research inquires into ritual and metaphorical acts of veiling and unveiling in Byzantium and the paradox of making the invisible and spiritual visible and tangible through veils, whether literal or conceptual. Prior to joining the faculty at Queens College, Warren held teaching and research posts at Duke, Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, the Metropolitan Museum and the University of Zurich.
